TV, radio and DOOH advertising automation for Australia

OpenMediaLogic can be deployed for Australian television networks, radio groups, out-of-home operators, sales houses and agencies. It is not live in Australia today: the platform runs in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, where 200+ media brands use it. This page describes what an Australian deployment would involve, in the Australian market's own terms.

How Australia trades, and what the platform connects to

  • Television audience is measured by OzTAM in the metropolitan and subscription markets and by Regional TAM in regional markets; VOZ (Virtual Australia) combines broadcast and BVOD into a total-television view and is the basis of total-TV trading. Television is planned and traded on TARPs (target audience rating points) and CPM; the planning module takes the market's currency through the API and calculates on TARPs, CPM and reach.
  • Networks — Seven, Nine, 10 and SBS, and Foxtel Media for subscription — sell their own airtime and BVOD through their own sales teams and, for programmatic and addressable products, through their own platforms. A deployment would sit beside those for the linear book, connected through the API; for a regional network or a group of stations selling on spreadsheets, it would be the book.
  • Radio — commercial radio audience is surveyed by GfK for Commercial Radio & Audio in the metropolitan markets, with separate regional surveys; the groups (ARN, SCA, Nova, Nine Radio) and the many regional operators sell airtime through their own sales operations. The radio module handles schedule, rate cards, booking, certificates and reconciliation for a group of any size.
  • Out-of-home audience is measured by MOVE, the Outdoor Media Association's system; the large operators (oOh!media, JCDecaux, QMS) sell classic and digital inventory directly and, for DOOH, programmatically. The platform runs the direct business — packages, bookings, proof of play, certificates — beside the TV and radio book.
  • Clearance and codes — television commercials are classified through ClearAds (Free TV Australia) before broadcast; advertising content is self-regulated through Ad Standards under the AANA codes; the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regulates broadcasting. Classification attaches to the creative in the trafficking step.

Commercial and legal terms of an Australian deployment

  • Billing in AUD, GST applied on invoices, through an Australian contracting entity
  • Hosting and data residency in Australia, under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles; role-based access, encryption in transit and at rest, audit log — see security
  • Interface in English; support hours aligned to Australian Eastern time, critical incidents around the clock — the same support model the platform runs in its current markets in their time zones
  • Integration through the REST API: audience data from the measurement providers, playout and automation, agency systems, accounting
  • Onboarding in 48 hours for the platform itself, reference data migration included

Where the platform fits in Australia

The metropolitan networks and the large agency groups run mature station-side and agency-side systems, and a deployment there is a marketplace layer between them connected through the API — the alternatives page describes that relationship with Mediaocean, WideOrbit and Operative. The stronger fit is the long tail: regional television and radio, out-of-home operators' direct business, independent agencies, and any media group that owns channels, stations and screens and wants to sell all three from one place. Australia's geography makes that tail long, and it is the part of the market that still trades by email. In the platform's three live markets that is where the results came from — up to 95% of a country's TV inventory on one platform, −32% media costs for a national advertiser (case), +47% occupancy for a national broadcaster (case).
